It isn’t only the wise monkeys that see or hear no evil it would seem.

As thousands of people are dying after being wrongly assessed as being fit for work by the DWP and JCP officials have been issued with guidelines on how to spot suicidal claimants before removing their benefits… Isn’t it time we started questioning WHY the MSM aren’t reporting this with the same vigour they give to demonising claimants and refugees…

More to the point, isn’t it time that we stopped being so insular?

I read the comments under ever more horrific reports of desperate people dying, DYING in their attempts to escape from a war torn hell yet for every compassionate post there is at least ten so lacking in compassion and basic inhumanity that they shame us as a species.

The public is being fed a diet of disinformation and biased news reports and programmes that are little more than propaganda dressed up as fact and they consume it avidly. If they only stopped to question why instead of condemning without question how many lives could be improved or saved?

Iain Duncan Smith’s historic links to the far-right

Pride's Purge

(not satire – it’s Iain Duncan Smith!)

No one should be surprised by the extremities of Duncan Smith’s attacks on the welfare state.

After all, Duncan Smith has a history of links to far-right politics – including racist and fascist organisations.

  • In 1995,  Duncan Smith was one of a few Tory MPs who met with senior figures of the racist and anti-semitic French National Front in Westminster. Le Pen’s deputy, Bruno Gollnisch MEP, later said Duncan Smith and other Tory MPs they met were “sympathetic” to their views:

I came to meet members of the Conservative Party sympathetic to our views… I met Duncan Smith and others in their offices and later we got together for less formal talks in a bar somewhere in the Parliament building.

Carers now being targeted by the DWP.

The poor side of life

Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with all the changes that are occurring in the DWP. It seems like a never ending turnstile of changes. I usually get alerted to the big changes fairly early on before they happen, but I missed this one.

A lady approached me outside the Jobcentre yesterday during our weekly demonstration. To say she was a bit annoyed was an understatement. She is a full time carer for her disabled son. His condition is unpredictable at times and as a result they are in receipt of a high level DLA payment. It’s not easy to get a high level award and this lady has fought very hard to get this.

She had received a letter from the Jobcentre. She had been asked to go into the Jobcentre for a mandatory back to work meeting. To make matters worse they didn’t send her to her nearest…

Benefit cuts “will involve cuts to benefits” shocker

Benefit cuts “will involve cuts to benefits” shocker.

In years to come children will study this period of social history as the pivotal point in time in which society finally gave up any notion of empathy or compassion for those with the least in life.

At every turn the public is bombarded with more and more outrageous propaganda against the poor.. If Coronation street is sponsored by Compare the Meercat then surely Benefits street, Benefits and fat, thin, by the sea, How to get a council house ect is sponsored by the government.

Now we have a new threat, suddenly it’s not enough to get a job and work, now many hundreds of thousands have been labelled scroungers and lazy for taking employment that doesn’t pay enough to live on. Dammed if they do, dammed if they don’t.

Get a better job, stop poncing off the tax payer, they aren’t trying hard enough is the new mantra, Suddenly, as I have seen tonight on Facebook there is a charming gif doing the rounds about child tax credits being for the child, not for drugs and booze. Sweeping generalisations that stick in the minds of those with no experience or understanding. So there it is out there in the ether that people claiming tax credits are booze raddled junkies, Sound far fetched? Not at all.

Thanks to the government’s pre programming that has left many people believing all on ESA are swinging it, that everyone with a motability car has fiddled it, that everyone with a blue badge can jog a mile without stopping and let’s not forget that every single house lived in by a claimant has a 50″ flat screen TV, a cupboard full of Stella and the drug of choice on tap it is but a hop, skip and a jump for them to believe the worst of those at the lowest pay scale.

Next time they come will it be for you?

Fat shaming

Yesterday a programme about a set of remarkable young ladies aired. Plus sized wars explored the growing market of plus sized bloggers and their impact on the lives of girls with very low self esteem. It was a wonderful positive programme.

Sadly it has been totally overshadowed by the foolish throw away comments by Jamelia regarding the programme on Loose Women aired earlier in the day. Jamelia opinioned the thoughts that ‘morbidly obese’, in otherwise people over a size twenty should be made to feel uncomfortable about clothes shopping. just to balance the issue she also said size 0 women should struggle also.

In a week where the tragic death due to slimming pills of  a beautiful young girl is at the forefront of the news her comments are disingenuous at  best and dangerous at the worst.

We live in a society where image is everything, we are confronted with the media’s idea of perfection every where we turn. In truth even this perfection is heavily altered. Photoshop is the king. This unnatural flawless perfection impossible to attain is the cause of so much heartache and self loathing for so many. Blemish, fat and imperfection free these images cause so much damage to the most vulnerable. At one end of the scale bulimia and anorexia, at the other the morbidly obese, not just a label, every one a person no different to the ‘normal’ middle ground.

To say these people should feel in anyway marginalised as consumers in a world where they are already judged and found wanting is disgusting.

When Rubens painted his Junoesque beauties soft plump limbs were judged a thing of beauty and wealth.. Well fed and comfortable whereas the rail thin were the poorest in society, malnourished paupers. In modern times we are looking at the direct opposite.. sleek and slender is the sign of so called perfection and anything less or more is held up to distain.

People with weight issues don’t need to be told it is unhealthy, they know that already, low self esteem is a terrible, terrible thing. Jamelia’s unfortunate comments have done nothing to help those who already fight self loathing every day.
